    Description

MOFAN TMEDA is a colorless-to-straw, liquid, tertiary amine with a characteristic aminic odor. It is readily soluble in water, ethyl alcohol, and other organic solvent. It is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is also used as a cross linking catalyst for polyurethane rigid foams.

    Application

MOFAN TMEDA,Tetramethylethylenediamine is a moderately active foaming catalyst and a foaming/gel balanced catalyst, which can be used for thermoplastic soft foam, polyurethane semi foam and rigid foam to promote skin formation, and can be used as an auxiliary catalyst for MOFAN 33LV.

    Handling and storage

    Precautions for safe handling
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Wear full protective clothing for prolonged exposure and/or high concentrations. Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction, to ensure that the defined occupational exposure limit is not exceeded. If ventilation is insufficient, suitable respiratory protection must be provided. Good personal hygiene is necessary. Wash hands and contaminated areas with water and soap before leaving the work site.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Do not store near heat sources or expose to high temperatures. Protect from freezing and direct sunlight.

    FAQ

I make flexible slabstock foam and want faster rise without splitting. How can TMEDA help?

TMEDA is a fast-acting blowing catalyst; use 0.05–0.15 phr with a balanced gel catalyst like TEDA to avoid splitting.

Can TMEDA reduce the amount of water needed to achieve a target foam density?

Not directly, but its strong catalytic activity allows you to maintain reactivity even at lower water levels (lower exotherm).

My epoxy floor coating takes too long to cure at 10°C. Will TMEDA accelerate it?

Yes, TMEDA is an effective accelerator for epoxy-amine systems, especially at low temperatures.

What is the best way to avoid scorch in high-water, high-TMEDA foam formulations?

Reduce TMEDA to below 0.1 phr and add an antioxidant; also consider replacing part of TMEDA with MOFAN A1.

Does TMEDA cause strong amine bloom on foam surface?

It has higher volatility, so surface bloom may occur. Use lower levels or post-cure at 50°C for 2 hours to eliminate.

I need a catalyst for a fast-curing polyurethane adhesive for wood. Is TMEDA a good choice?

Yes, add 0.3–0.8% by weight of resin to achieve a 5–10 minute open time.

Can TMEDA be used in polyurethane elastomers for rollers?

Yes, but because it’s highly volatile, consider using a reactive amine like MOFAN 50 for high-temperature applications.

My rigid foam pour-in-place insulation is too friable. Can TMEDA help?

TMEDA mainly affects blowing, not trimerization; switch to a trimer catalyst like TMR-30 instead.

How do I store TMEDA to maintain its activity for more than 6 months?

Keep in a tightly sealed, nitrogen-blanketed container away from moisture and acids; it is hygroscopic.

Can TMEDA replace PMDETA (MOFAN 5) in epoxy curing?

Partially; TMEDA is faster but gives shorter pot life. Use TMEDA for low-temperature cure, PMDETA for room temperature.
